  • Overview

VSA Partners is a group of dedicated, collaborative and kind people that value smarts over egos. We work very hard to create human-centered, insight-inspired work that moves people, changes behavior, and answers real strategic problems. We started as a design firm over 30 years ago and operate today with a “design thinking” approach to everything we do. Formally, we’re a branding and marketing company that approaches business challenges holistically and aims to break down silos between branding, digital, marketing and advertising. Informally, we’re a family that comes together at the table every day to make something great.

We’re looking for a Director, Client Engagement to focus on clients and business growth. You’ll partner with VSA executive leadership and be empowered to help craft and grow our San Francisco presence. You’ll leverage your hunter mentality and partner with our Business Development team to identify new and organic opportunities. You’ll serve as the primary lead and point of contact, and as such be the “owner” of various client engagements. Our ideal Director, Client Engagement has experience in spades—in branding, marketing and digital as well as in strategy, writing and relationship management.

    Responsibilities

    • It goes without saying that you’ll maintain positive relationships with clients, managing the “health and wellness” of our engagements.
    • You will also maintain active stewardship of a strong VSA reputation
    • You will strategically frame opportunities, develop approaches, and oversee executions, selling and managing across VSA’s capabilities/offerings.
    • You will guide clients towards a strategic relationship by delivering insights that resonate with their brand, their industry, their customers and their markets.
    • You’ll also help magnify the voice of the client, keeping their interests, business opportunities and strategic needs front and center throughout the entirety of a project.
    • You will identify ways to improve the work quality, team mix and client satisfaction, working closely with practice leads to strengthen all engagements.
    • You will lead the proposal effort, managing the SOW and MSA process from development to signature on their designated accounts.
    • In partnership with Project Management, Finance and Legal, you will accurately define scope, pricing, and timing.
    • In Partnership with Executive Leadership, you will help set the tone and develop the culture for the emerging San Francisco office.
    • You’ll foster relationships with and outreach to potential talent.
    • You will influence and steer the “product,” supporting a balance between the account team’s responsibilities and your own.
    • You will encourage collaboration within the team to promote camaraderie and a positive atmosphere. That means you should be a passionate supporter of work outcomes, with the foresight to raise risks when necessary.
    • You should also seek to deepen or expand SME each year, and when appropriate, promote this expertise externally.

    Qualifications

    Ideally You Have…

    • A Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, strategy, marketing or a related field (a Master’s degree is a big plus)
    • 10+ years of work experience with recent experience in an agency environment
    • 5 years of client service experience with proven track record of success
    • Strong domain knowledge of the client and industry in which they operate: its company, culture, market and competitors
    • Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to develop powerful presentations and articulate confidently
    • The capability to utilize design thinking methodologies to identify opportunities within the client’s organization and define the business problem that VSA will help solve
    • A demonstrated ability to be forward-thinking and innovative while understanding client needs and how they align with VSA’s capabilities and offerings
    • The desire and grit to grow offerings, clients, and a team
    • The flexibility to travel to Chicago roughly every other week
    • Skills in problem solving, judgment, critical thinking and decision-making
    • Strong people and influence management skills.
    • A knack for working with people and building relationships, and a desire to do this with some of the nicest people on the planet.
